Ighodalo referred to the September 21 election as “the darkest day in the political history of the state,” characterising it as an instance of blatant theft of the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Edo State.
In a video message released on Monday, he stated, “To all our beloved supporters, we thank you for believing in this vision, for your countless hours of dedication, and for every conversation you’ve had with others about this cause.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
Together, we ran a remarkable campaign, and your overwhelming support was reflected in the ballots before our progress was unjustly halted on September 21, 2024, by those who do not have your or our state’s best interests at heart.
“That day will forever be remembered as one of our darkest moments, marked by the brazen theft of our mandate and the disgraceful subversion of the people’s will. Yet, we must not be discouraged in the face of this challenge.
“The fleeting triumph of evil over good is temporary. Our journey toward a prosperous Edo State does not end here; it is only just beginning. Let us remain engaged, committed, and united in our shared resolve to forge a pathway to prosperity for everyone in Edo State. You did not abandon me during our campaign, and I promise you, by the grace of God Almighty, that I will not abandon you as we navigate this daunting and uncertain future together.”
In a follow-up text statement on his X handle on Tuesday, he expressed gratitude: “Thank you, Edo. Thank you for the love and tremendous support you have shown me throughout this journey.
“Thank you for braving the rains, the threats of violence, harassment, and intimidation to vote for us overwhelmingly on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
“Our journey does not end here; it continues as we remain committed and resolute in recovering our mandate and creating a Pathway to Prosperity for All in Edo State.”
