Ibadan Descendants Union USA Holds National Convention, Unveils Legacy House
The Ibadan Descendants Union (IDU) USA hosted its highly anticipated National Convention and fundraising event for the Ibadan House last Saturday at the prestigious Grace Event Center on Bellaire Blvd in Houston.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the event drew a significant number of attendees, with many Ibadan indigenes flying in from around the world and across the United States, creating a vibrant and exciting atmosphere.
The gathering was graced by high-profile socialites, showcasing a rich tapestry of fashion and style that celebrated the cultural heritage of Ibadan.
Attendees experienced a lively celebration of traditions, with royalty and political representatives honored throughout the day.
Special guests included His Excellency Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, and Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadan Land.
The theme for this year’s convention, “Celebrating and Embracing Our Cultural Pride in the Diaspora,” resonated deeply with attendees.
The event marked the launch of the Ibadan House, envisioned as a center for showcasing and promoting Ibadan’s rich cultural legacy.

In her speech, the President of the IDU Houston chapter, Alhaja Titilayo Sanusi, emphasized the union’s commitment to the growth and development of Ibadan and its people, focusing on education, health, and social development.
She acknowledged the contributions of various chapters of IDU in the USA and expressed gratitude to the Houston chapter for its efforts in organizing the convention.
She said, “This convention is a celebration of our shared passions and a testament to our collective strength.
We are honored to have two distinguished guests joining us: His Excellency Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, and Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadan.
We look forward to exploring, celebrating, and enhancing our cultural pride in the diaspora, which will propel our union forward.
“I would also like to extend my gratitude to our National President, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, and the IDU national executives for their support and trust in the Houston chapter to host this event.
My thanks go out to the Houston chapter executives, our esteemed elders, and all members for their tireless efforts, financial support, and moral encouragement, which have made this convention possible.”
On his part, the National President of IDU, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, said, “Our city of birth, Ibadan, is deeply rooted in Yoruba culture, which continues to be a source of pride for us.
“We embrace our culture and take pride in it; what remains is for us to celebrate it so that our hosts can appreciate it alongside us.

“Additionally, the significance of this year’s convention lies in the launch of the Ibadan House, which will serve as a hub to showcase Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
