The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken legal action against Baba Kudu Mohammed, arraigning him on a four-count charge of forgery.
Eko Hot Blog the charges stem from Mohammed’s alleged falsification of a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
The accused was brought before Honourable Justice A.Y. Shafa of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, No. 45, in Nyanya.
ICPC alleges that Mohammed presented these forged documents to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) in an attempt to secure employment with the agency.
One of the counts contained in the charge read: “That you, Baba Kudu Mohammed (M), sometime in the month of August 2010 or thereabouts at Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did have in your possession a forged Letter of Exemption from National Service bearing your name with identification number NYSC/CMD/LT. No. 201201201 and serial number 15440, purportedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 53, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
In response to the charges brought against him, Baba Kudu Mohammed entered a plea of not guilty to all counts. Mr. Hamza Sani, the prosecution counsel, stated that they were ready to proceed with the case as two witnesses were present to testify.
M.E. Abubakar, counsel for the defendant, requested bail for Mohammed, to which the prosecution counsel did not object. The court subsequently granted bail under specific conditions.
The trial has now been adjourned until March 3, 2025, when the hearings will commence.
This adjournment allows both the prosecution and the defense to prepare their respective cases and gather any additional evidence or witnesses that may be needed.
