Residents of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government of Lagos state have commended governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for rehabilitating the Agege-Iju motor road which had made life difficult for commuters and motorists in recent times.
Speaking with ekohotblog.com, commuters shared their ordeal and what they had to pass through before getting to work daily before government’s intervention.
A civil servant, Abosede Olalere, who works at Alausa and lives in Ishaga, said she spent nothing less than one hour on the road from Ishaga to College bus stop on journey that was not up to 15minutes.

“I resume work 8am and I leave my house few minutes past six in the morning. Normally, I get a direct bus to Alausa from Fagba bus stop, although buses aren’t really much at that park. So, I go straight to Pen-Cinema where I am sure that I would always see a bus.
“Despite leaving my house that early, I spend close to one hour from Ishaga to College bus stop. This is a journey that’s not more than 15 minutes. There was a bad portion at Zenith Bank immediately after Fagba bus stop. There was another close to Jungle bus stop, in front of the NNPC gas station.
“You can’t imagine what people went through before the intervention. Now, the journey is a smooth one for everybody.
“I really thank the governor for this stress saving intervention. I am a civil servant and I know how much he is trying to better the lot of Lagosians,” she concluded.
An accountant, Kola Olawole, who resides at Elliot said that he plied that route at a great risk to his life because the roads were bad and he resorted to taking okada
“I think government rehabilitated the road just because of me. I live in Elliot and work on the Island. So, I have to get to Ogba to take a bus. Initially, when the road wasn’t that bad, I would take tricycle (Napep) to Ogba. Gradually, the traffic started building because little portions of the road that were bad had become worse. That was when I opted for okada which was at a great risk to my life. The bikes couldn’t pass the road also so they took one-way. I wasn’t comfortable with that but I had to be at work on time. Your boss won’t take excuses.”
The story is the same for Austin, a trader who has a shop at around Agege stadium. Unlike others, Austin drives a Toyota Camry and he said that he was always repairing his car because of the road.
“For others, it was still manageable but for me, it wasn’t easy. I drive a car and I can tell you how often I visited the mechanic because of the bad road. It was even worse during the raining season, ” he said.
Ekohotblog.com also spoke to some commerical bus drivers plying the route.
“I really want to thank our governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for rehabilitating this road. I load from Ishaga to Pen-Cinema and the stress I passed through before the intervention, I wouldn’t wish that on my enemy. At the end of everyday, you had to take your bus to the mechanic if you didn’t want to enter wahala (trouble) with passengers the following day,” Akeem said.
Another motorist, Baba Egun, was full of praises for the governor as he said he had contemplated changing route to avoid recurring expenses on maintenance cost of his bus.
He said, “I have been working as a bus driver on this route for over 11 years and I couldn’t remember when the road was that bad. To be honest, I had thought of looking for another route to ply because of the cost of repairing my vehicle. Governor Sanwo-Olu has done well and help us thank him. We motorists are really grateful for this intervention.”
