IGP Approves ₦10m Compensation for Officers Killed in Edo Election Duty Accident
EKO HOT BLOG reports that five officers lost their lives in the accident, while eleven others were hospitalized. The incident occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway in Karfi Kura.
Egbetokun has approved the payment of compensatory funds, granting ₦10 million to the families of the deceased officers. Officers still undergoing treatment will receive ₦2 million each, while those discharged after treatment will receive ₦500,000 directly.

This information was confirmed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday. The statement highlighted the Inspector-General’s dedication to the welfare of police officers and their families, particularly during difficult times.
The statement reads: “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD., NPM., has approved the immediate payment of relief funds to the families of officers involved in the tragic accident on September 24, 2024, as they were returning from the Edo Elections Special Duty to Kano State Command.
“The accident, which occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Karfi Kura, claimed the lives of five officers, leaving eleven others hospitalized. Of the hospitalized officers, eight have been discharged, while three are still receiving treatment.

“To support those affected by this tragic incident, the IGP has authorized the payment of ₦10 million to the families of the deceased officers, recognizing their deep loss and providing some financial relief during this difficult time. Those still receiving medical care will receive ₦2 million, while those who have been discharged after treatment will be given ₦500,000.
“The IGP reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the well-being of its officers and their families. He extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.”
