Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Issues 14 Days Ultimatum To Truck Operators Against Highway Parking

The Management of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA has issued a 14 days ultimatum against haphazard parking of trucks on the highway of the LCDA, particularly at Itoikin Village.

As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, the ultimatum was issued at the meeting held with representatives of Sinoma Ports, Itoikin, on Wednesday 25th of August at the council Secretariat.

The LCDA had invited the Chinese company in a bid to address some concerns which were raised by residents of Itoikin community. The concerns include, amongst others, indiscriminate parking of trucks on the highway by Sinoma and her associates, vandalization of public facilities by truck drivers, cases of sexual harassment and abuse, as well as outright neglect of its corporate social responsibility to host community.

According to Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Chairman, “This government frowns at indiscriminate parking of trucks on our highway as many lives has been lost due to this act and we will not condone it any longer. We will not hesitate to take decisive actions against defaulters after the expiration of the 14 days ultimatum given which starts from today. In as much as we are a business friendly government, we do not want the development of our community to come at the expense of the lives and properties of our people, we are not a government for the elites alone, we are a government for all irrespective of religion, class and race.”

The council Mayor also enjoined the company to be corporately and socially responsible to her host community. he further said “ Itoikin community has been without electricity for more than a year, it does not speak well if Sinoma, a multinational hosted by the community has continued to turn a blind eye to it. There are different CSR that could be done for the community. It is not out of place if Sinoma decides to construct a fence for the primary School in the community, assist with palliative measures for the deplorable roads or purchase a transformer for her host community,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Sinoma Ports, Barr. Sanni restated the commitment of Sinoma Ports to abiding by extant laws and regulations of government at all levels and assured the council Management that the company already has plans in the pipeline to fulfill its CSR to the community.

The meeting was concluded after the Sinoma team were informed of their outstanding taxes and rates which they promised to remit accordingly.

Members of the Management team at the meeting include the Vice Chairman, Council Manager,Chief of Staff, Council Treasurer, Legal Adviser, Area officers, Internal Auditor, H.O.D’s of Environment and Budget department respectively, while Mr. Austin and Mr. Raji Olanshile came with Barr. Sanni as Sinoma representatives.
