Ikoyi Building Collapse: Owner Trapped Inside Rubble – Witness

• The owner of the Ikoyi building that collapsed is trapped inside the rubble a witness claims. 

Ekohotblog reports that a witness to the Ikoyi building that collapsed on Monday said that the owner of the skyscraper is trapped with the other victims.

At least four people have died in the collapsed building situated on Gerard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

A digger is at the scene and rescue workers are searching through the rubble and twisted metal.

Earlier, pictures from the site showed crowds near a huge mound of debris.

What caused the collapse and how many people are trapped under the rubble remains unclear.

The witness, who identified himself as Morris Ashiru to journalists, said he and some of his friends, came to work at the construction site.

He said the owner of the building, alongside a lot of people, were still trapped in the ruins of the collapsed skyscraper.

He said, “Everybody was working. A lot of people came here from Abuja,”

“The owner of the building is inside. He brought some clients to inspect the building.”

Since the incident happened at about 2pm, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu have done an on the spot assessment.
