The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the successful production of 184,438 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for new registrants and other designated categories in preparation for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections.
The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, during a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
INEC has scheduled the governorship elections for Edo and Ondo states on September 21, 2024, and November 16, 2024, respectively.
Yakubu highlighted that the main agenda of the meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) was the preparation for these elections and seven pending bye-elections across six states.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Yakubu stated, “Today’s meeting focuses on the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as seven bye-elections. The recent Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in these states has led to significant updates.
“For Edo State, we registered 119,206 new voters, with an additional 8,847 transferring from other states and 46,171 moving within the state.”
The commission has updated the records of 4,808 voters who applied for corrections and replaced 5,406 lost or damaged PVCs.
All 184,438 PVCs produced have been printed and sent to INEC’s Benin City office, where they are now being distributed to Electoral Officers (EOs) for further distribution.
The collection period for these PVCs is set from August 22 to August 26, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, including weekends, across all 192 wards in Edo State.
Additionally, PVCs will be available at 18 local government offices from August 28 to September 8, 2024, with the same operating hours.
Yakubu noted that details of the collection points are available on INEC’s website and social media.
A comprehensive register, including names and photographs of the 184,438 voters, has also been uploaded online to facilitate easy identification and collection.
He emphasized that PVCs must be collected in person to prevent misuse. Voters are encouraged to collect their PVCs and participate in the elections.
