Jema’a LG Chairman Tasks Women On Peace And Nation Building
Southern Kaduna women have been called to be committed to peace and nation-building to promote Growth and development.
The call was made during an event to mark this year’s international day for women, Organised by Fantswam Foundation with the support of the Nigerian Early Recovery Initiative, NERI, the Components of United States Agency for International Development- Office Transitional Initiative, USAID/ OTI in Kafanchan, Kaduna State Nigeria.
Speaking during the global event, Executive Chairman, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State Mr. Peter Danjuma Averik used the occasion to sue for gender balance and more involvement of women in all political processes and governance, saying women also have important roles to play in the quest for enduring peace and national development.
He commended Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of kaduna State for appointing more women into his cabinet which he described as exemplary and advised other political leaders in the country especially the state Governors to emulate him in order to move the nation forward.
Also speaking, wife of the council chairman Mrs.Salamatu Peter Averik described as very impressive the turn out of women for the event despite their numerous domestic and financial challenges.
She used the opportunity to encourage women to take the education of their children especially the girl-child seriously as according to her, no nation would ever developed with its female population uneducated.
Mrs Averik again advised women to be peace builders, good home managers and respect their husbands which according to her was the secret of every prosperous home.
In her key note address, the chairperson Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch Barr. Hauwa Shekarau lamented that despite the critical roles of women in the areas of successful family and community development in economy, agriculture and health, they still suffer domestic violence, accounted the world’s poorest gender as well as being excluded in politics and peace building processes.
Barrister Hauwa advised women to be united, support one another and to actively participate in politics to enable them secure positions in governance to contribute their quota toward building a prosperous Nation.
In his royal blessings, His Highness Agwam Zikpak, Dr Josiah Tagwai Kantiyok commended the organizers of the event and expressed the willingness of the traditional councils in Jema’a Local Government to support any initiative aimed at empowering women and youths.
In their separate remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) Fantswam Foundation Mrs.Kazanka Comfort, the program’s Manager, Nigeria Early Recovery Initiative (NERI) Mrs Chikodinaka and the coordinator Salama Centre Mrs Grace Abbin commended women for being resilient and committed in their support to national development irrespective of what they described as social imbalance created by traditions and other social practices in favor of men.
