EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Tuesday, Onoh said Jonathan’s political history already showed how close allies misled him in 2015, making him believe he was unbeatable until he lost to the then-opposition candidate, Bola Tinubu.
“Many of the people pushing Jonathan today will betray him tomorrow. This was exactly how his inner circle deceived him during the buildup to the 2015 election, making him feel untouchable. He never saw Tinubu coming, and that’s how he lost,” Onoh said.
He noted that while a 2022 Federal High Court judgment in Yenagoa had declared Jonathan constitutionally eligible to contest future elections, the real battle would not be in the courts but in politics, where loyalty is fleeting.
Onoh urged Jonathan to learn from past experiences, warning that sycophants around him were more concerned about their personal gains than his political survival. He stressed that Jonathan risked being used as a pawn in the rivalry between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He further advised President Tinubu not to be distracted by rumours of Jonathan’s return, saying the administration should focus instead on economic recovery, security, and national unity.
“Jonathan is free under the law, but politics is not about the courts alone. It’s about trust, loyalty, and strategy. Many who clap for him now will betray him when it matters most,” Onoh added.
