  • Gunmen have invaded a hospital in Bayelsa, robbed patients and doctors on duty.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that unknown gunmen have invaded the Diete Koki Memorial Hospital in the Opolo area of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Tuesday, carting away cash and other valuables belonging to the doctors on duty and patients.

It was gathered that the gunmen scaled the perimeter fence of the state-owned hospital from the back to gain entry.

Speaking on the incident, a medical doctor, Awudumapu Okeleghel, disclosed that the assailants were two in number, adding that they attacked him unaware while he was returning from his call room.

“My belongings and those of patients from the labour ward and their family members were all taken by the gunmen,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, when contacted, said the incident had not been reported to the state police command.
