The Kebbi State Government has denied any involvement in the detention of former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the anti graft agency invited Malami on November 28 as part of its investigation into allegations connected to his time in office.
After his initial interrogation, Malami said his engagement with the commission was productive and described the allegations against him as “fabricated.”
However, he returned to the EFCC on December 8 and has remained in custody after reportedly failing to meet the conditions attached to his bail.
Speculation has emerged suggesting that Malami’s ongoing ordeal may be politically motivated, especially amid accusations and counter accusations between him and the Kebbi State Government over security matters in the state.
Responding to the claims, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, Ahmed Idris, said the state government had no role in the former minister’s case.
He described suggestions linking the government to Malami’s detention as false and misleading.
“There is nothing like that. The Kebbi State Government has no involvement in Malami’s issue; it predates this administration,” Idris said.
“A lot of petitions were raised against him when he declared interest in the governorship of the state. The petitions are not even from Kebbi but from Abuja, from some of his colleagues. So, we have no hand in his issue.”
Idris further dismissed the allegations, insisting that the state government was not aware of the details surrounding the case.
“Anybody who says the Kebbi State Government has a hand in Malami’s case is mischievous. Such a person is wicked and heartless, because the state government does not even know exactly what is happening with his case,” he added.
