EKO HOT BLOG reports that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) recently surged to between N1,050 and N1,150 per litre, attributed to rising global crude oil costs. Dealers have warned that the upward trend in crude oil prices will continue to affect petrol prices nationwide.
Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, criticized the government for its lack of consultation with key stakeholders before implementing the price hike. He argued that inclusive decision-making would have mitigated the negative impact on citizens.
“This price hike will exacerbate inflation and further devalue the naira. The government must prioritize dialogue with representatives of workers, students, and the private sector,” Ndubuaku said.
Similarly, Lagos State NLC Chairperson, Sessi Funmi, accused oil marketers of exploiting Nigerians. She alleged that marketers manipulate prices for personal gain, undermining government efforts to stabilize the oil sector. “Marketers are enriching themselves at the expense of the masses. The government must intervene and ensure fair pricing,” Sessi stated.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Refinery clarified that it had adjusted its ex-depot price to N950 per litre due to rising crude oil prices. The refinery’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, emphasized that Dangote absorbed additional logistics costs to maintain uniform pricing nationwide.
