Khalifa Modibbo Arrested Days After Release from Prison for Shila Gangsterism

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a young man named Khalifa Modibbo for his alleged involvement in what is referred to as ‘Shila gangsterism.’

EKO HOT BLOG reports that this term is used by the police to describe a range of crimes, including the snatching of phones and other small valuables by youth known locally as Shila Boys.

Khalifa, who is from Hayin Gada in Girei Local Government Area, was apprehended just two weeks after being released from prison due to a state government decongestion initiative. This program involved reviewing the cases of certain categories of inmates in correctional facilities.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

He was among 100 awaiting trial inmates and convicts who received pardons from the Jail Delivery Committee, chaired by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman.

Earlier this year, Khalifa had been arrested and remanded in prison for criminal conspiracy and theft, spending six months behind bars before his release.

However, just two weeks after regaining his freedom, the 18-year-old was re-arrested along with one Ibrahim Garba for engaging in criminal conspiracy and theft using the Shila Boys’ tactics.

According to police reports, Khalifa and Garba were operating on a tricycle when they targeted their victim at Yolde Pate Junction in Yola South Local Government Area, heading toward the main market in Yola town.

While Garba drove the tricycle, Khalifa, who was sitting in the back and pretending to be a passenger, reached into the pocket of another passenger and stole N26,000.

Fortunately, the victim noticed the theft and requested Garba to take him to the nearby Wuro Hausa Police Station so he could report the incident.

Upon arrival at the station, the victim raised an alarm, prompting nearby individuals to intervene and apprehend the suspects before handing them over to the police.

SP Suleiman Ngurore, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and stated that Commissioner of Police Morris Dankombo has ordered an investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
