Presidency dismissed claims of regional bias, reaffirmed national equity
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has claimed that former NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is indirectly helping to spotlight President Bola Tinubu’s achievements in northern Nigeria through calculated criticism.

Kwankwaso had, on Thursday, accused the Tinubu-led administration of sidelining the North in favour of the South in terms of federal projects and resource allocation. In response, presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare dismissed the claim, highlighting several infrastructure projects and policy initiatives underway in the North.
Reacting further, Akindele alleged that Kwankwaso’s criticism was strategic and meant to provoke the presidency into listing Tinubu’s achievements in the region.
“Kwankwaso doesn’t want to appear to be defending Tinubu openly, so he throws criticism knowing the presidency will respond with facts,” Akindele said. “His statement compelled the government to publicise the developmental projects in the North that were previously under-reported.”
According to him, the presidency’s response has now brought national attention to the level of progress ongoing in the North. Akindele claimed over 52 per cent of Tinubu’s infrastructural development is concentrated in the North, a detail many Nigerians are unaware of.
“Most people assumed only security spending was prioritised in the North, but now we know even infrastructure funds are heavily allocated there,” he added.

Akindele’s comments come amid growing debates around equitable development across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. While political actors continue to exchange words, the discourse highlights renewed scrutiny of how federal resources are distributed across the country.
