Addressing journalists at the premises of the Lagos Assembly shortly after the impeachment of the speaker, Hon Tobun said the decision to elect new leadership was in the interest of Lagosians.
According to the lawmaker, the house experienced a significant leadership change, after former Speaker Rt Hon. mudashiru Obasa was impeached on Monday morning and Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda taking over as Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
Hon. Tobun explained that the decision to change the leadership of the House was made unanimously by all members.

He posited that while death is constant, change is a natural part of life.
He said , Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who had been Speaker for several terms, had served the House well, but it was time for a new direction.
“The entire House came together to make this decision. The constitution gives us the power to regulate our own proceedings, and we have followed the rules to the letter,” Tobun said.
As part of the leadership change, Rt. Hon. Mojisola was elected as the new Speaker of the House, while Hon. Fatal Adebola was chosen to serve as Deputy Speaker.
Hon. Tobun assured the public that the decision was made with the best interests of Lagos State in mind.
He described the process as a smooth transition, with all members of the House agreeing on the need for fresh leadership.
“The House remains united, and we are ready to work together under the new leadership to achieve great things for the people of Lagos,” he added.
This change is seen as the beginning of a new chapter for the Lagos Assembly. Lawmakers believe that Rt. Hon. Mojisola’s leadership will bring new energy and ideas to the House.
