The Lagos State Government has begun work on the 670-metre Adebayo-Akinade Road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area as part of efforts to improve infrastructure in rural communities.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the project was formally flagged off on Wednesday on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu by the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje.

Agbaje said the road was part of the state government’s wider programme to address infrastructure gaps in rural areas and reduce the pressure that encourages residents to relocate to major urban centres.
He explained that improving roads and other infrastructure in rural communities would make it easier for businesses to operate, stimulate local economies and create better living conditions for residents.
According to him, the Adebayo-Akinade project comes shortly after the government approved six additional road projects across Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area and Ifelodun LCDA.
The special adviser appealed to residents and community leaders to safeguard the construction site and ensure that activities within the area did not interfere with the contractor’s work.
He also charged the contractor to deliver the project within the agreed timeframe and in line with the required construction standards.
The development was welcomed by community and political stakeholders, who said the project would contribute to the ongoing transformation of Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
The lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Aro Moshood, praised the Sanwo-Olu administration for extending infrastructure development to communities that were previously considered rural.
Moshood said the government had approved more than seven major road projects in Ikorodu over the past seven years, adding that improved road infrastructure had helped expand economic opportunities and strengthen connections between rural and urban communities.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, also commended the government for maintaining its rural infrastructure programme.
She said road construction and the provision of other basic amenities had contributed to improved economic activity and living conditions in rural areas.
The Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Olalekan Aroyewun, said the latest intervention reflected the government’s continued investment in the Ikorodu Division.
Aroyewun added that the growing number of development projects was making the area increasingly attractive to residents and potential investors. He similarly urged residents to protect the project and cooperate with the contractor to ensure its timely completion.
The Chairman of the Odera Community Development Association, Prof. Noah Imodu, described the road as an investment that went beyond transportation, saying it would improve accessibility, safety and economic opportunities for residents.
Imodu pledged the community’s cooperation with the government and contractor, assuring that residents would protect the project and support efforts to complete it on schedule.
The Adebayo-Akinade Road is among several road projects initiated by the Office of Rural Development in recent days.
Other projects include the 560-metre Isikalu Road, 270-metre Odofin Road, 320-metre Alayabiagba Road and 250-metre Cemetery Road in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, alongside the 320-metre Asubiojo Road and 115-metre Owoseni Road in Ifelodun LCDA.
