Eko Hot Blog reports that the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development under the Lagos State Government on Thursday, August 7, 2025, commenced its retreat for the onboarding of newly elected Local Government and Local Council Development Areas Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.
The retreat, themed Driving Grassroots Development Through Strategic Governance, continued into its second day today.
Declaring the retreat open, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, charged the newly elected Chairmen to work in unity and learn from each other.
“You sought this job; now is the time to take full responsibility for delivering on your promises,” he said.
He urged them to develop a comprehensive database of their localities and be good ambassadors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding, “Never disappoint Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Chairman of the Conference 57 League of Chairmen, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Governor for the opportunity to deepen their understanding of governance.
“We are fully ready for the job, and with our closeness to the grassroots, we have the capacity to deliver and meet the aspirations of our people,” he assured.
The retreat featured expert-led sessions on Public Procurement and due process compliance, Effective Communication for impactful leadership, Preventing corruption in local government administration, and Strengthening local security for effective policing and community safety.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Roberts; House Committee Chairman on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon; Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje; Permanent Secretary Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa; and Mr. Ahmed Seriki, among others.
