The State HoS and his entourage were received by the Lagos Water Corporation, Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, in company of the Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs). Helen Omolanke Taiwo.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Agoro admonished the LWC management and entire staff to co-operate with the state government towards successful ongoing restructuring process.
He noted that the support is required to enable the government to move the water sector forward to where its rightly belong to, where potable water would be running in every home in the state.
“I could recollect when I was young that we used to drink public water directly from the tap and almost all houses in the State were enjoyed good quality water supply from the Corporation,” the Lagos HoS recalled.
Agoro further stated that, with the present challenges, the staff ought to have spoken out when they realised things were not going in the right direction, but rather kept mute until they became worse due to negligence.
He added that, at this juncture, the government has no choice but to do the needful and ensure things get to normal, as it is supposed to be.
The Lagos civil service’s top official, therefore, appealed to the entire staff of the corporation to see the exercise as a sacrifice towards moving the state forward.
Responding to Agoro, Engr. Tijani reiterated that the restructuring process in the water sector has been completed, saying he will inform the entire staff on its outcome which is likely to affect some members of staff.
He, however, allayed their fears and urged them to rest assure that the state government will make adequate provision for their entitlements.
The LWC boss, therefore, enjoined the staff to ensure a peaceful cooperation with the government, stating that, “I have defended you in several meetings with top Government Officials and I was made to understand that the change is inevitable which was the first task I was given on assumption of duty as the Managing Director of this Corporation.”
On her part, the Executive Director Operations, Lagos Water Corporation, Engr (Mrs). Omolanke Taiwo also spoke in direction of other speakers that the restructuring process should not be seen as a witch-hunting exercise but for the betterment of the state and its residents.
She, therefore, urged every member of staff of the corporation to accept the outcome with good faith.
Others top state officials present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary Public Service Office Mrs Sunkanmi Oyegbola; the Permanent Secretary Establishment and Training Mrs Olubusola Abidakun; the Permanent Secretary Office of Environmental Services Dr. Omobolaji Gaji; and the Permanent Secretary Office of Drainage Services Engr Olakunle Adegbite.
