Lagos Model Colleges Face Imminent Boarding Fee Increase
Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has addressed concerns from parents about the upcoming increase in boarding fees in state model colleges.
While acknowledging the difficulty of this decision, the Ministry prioritizes the welfare of students, ensuring their well-being and academic success.
The statement highlights that free education is provided in numerous primary and secondary schools across the state, including 32 model colleges.
However, boarding fees are necessary to cover essential costs such as food, janitorial services, and energy expenses.
The Ministry emphasizes that the increase in boarding fees is crucial for maintaining the high standard of care and education in model colleges.

The current boarding fee of #35,000 has been unchanged since 2021 and is no longer realistic in 2024.
The Ministry assures parents that the reviewed rate is still considerate compared to other public schools with boarding facilities nationwide.
The statement concludes by appealing to parents to understand the necessity of this increase, prioritizing the students’ needs and well-being.
The government takes full responsibility for the health and academic success of students in boarding schools, ensuring they receive nutritious food and a supportive environment for their growth and development.
