Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu, on Friday commissioned a new housing scheme in Ajah, marking the delivery of 223 mixed type apartments and highlighting his administration’s progress on housing provision. At the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sanwo Olu said the 223 units demonstrate the state’s commitment to unlocking the value of Lagos real estate and addressing the metropolitan area’s significant housing deficit through private sector collaboration.
The Governor’s figure of 11,000 homes represents the most comprehensive count provided by the administration so far. It includes low, medium and high income accommodations across the state and covers a recent delivery of 420 apartments in Ajara, Badagry, in addition to the new Ajah project.
“Our focus on increasing the stock of modern homes and apartments continues to rise,” he said, acknowledging that Lagos remains the epicentre of Nigeria’s urbanisation, with demand continuing to outstrip supply.
Under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, the state encourages investors by offering land as equity along with financial incentives, including a 40 percent rebate on permits such as Environmental Impact Assessment, Traffic Impact Assessment and physical planning approvals, as well as other tax incentives.

The Governor also warned joint venture partners who fail to meet their contractual obligations. “We are concerned about joint venture partners who have not met their timelines. Their delays leave the State with uncompleted housing schemes and slow down our mandate,” he said.
He added that projects not completed within the agreed timeframe or failing to meet quality standards are under review for possible revocation.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to delivering several pipeline projects in the remaining months of its current term, including the Epe Housing Scheme at Ita Marun, Sangotedo Phase 2, Egan Igando Clusters 2 and 3, and Ibeshe Phase 2.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu Fatai, praised the Ajah project as a model of public private collaboration. He said the partnership began in 2019 with the goal of maximising land use within the existing Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate.
He urged residents to maintain the estate’s order, protect its peace and ensure it develops into a model community. “The success of this estate now depends on the values you uphold and how you protect what has been given to you,” he said.
