-Lagos to partner with housing developers on mass housing projects
-The mission of the State government is to provide adequate and high-quality housing in Lagos
Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai has expressed the readiness of the present administration to partner the private sector on mass housing projects in view of the urgent need to rid Lagos of inadequate housing.
Speaking at a media parley today at Ikeja, the Commissioner stated that the mission of the State government is to provide adequate and high-quality housing in Lagos and also facilitate home ownership schemes for the citizens as shelter remains one of the very important needs of man and a critical factor that determines the standard of living.
“The Lagos State government had commenced the implementation of policies that will make the environment more conducive for private sector participation and joint-venture investments in the provision of mass housing, especially in urban areas where the housing deficit is quite acute. We are hoping interested investors will come forward to collaborate with government in this regard”, he said.
Akinderu-Fatai explained that in order to serve Lagosians better as well as achieve a 21st-century economy, the present administration intends to create a sustainable system in which homes can be consistently made available to a larger number of people.
He opined that the State government has started off well with the recent commissioning of 492 housing units at Igando, stressing that within the next six months, over 1,248 homes would be delivered in different parts of the State in line with the commitment of this administration towards reducing the housing deficit and high cost of accommodation in Lagos.
“Recall that during the commissioning of the Igando housing Estate recently, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians that the delivery of these types of houses shall be consistent. Government shall embrace rigorous planning and financial discipline in ensuring that ongoing housing projects located in various parts of the State are delivered on schedule”, he asserted.
