The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said a major decision would soon be announced on the fate of motorcycle and tricycle riders in the state.
He also noted that an agency would be created in 2020 to regulate the activities of street traders in the state, Punch News reports.
Sanwo-Olu spoke on Thursday during a chat on Journalists’ Hangout, a programme on Television Continental.
The governor, while responding to a question on the nuisance of motorcycle riders, said a decision had been taken at the state cabinet meeting.

“We are having a security meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) and after that meeting, we are going to make a pronouncement. I don’t want to make that pronouncement here now because it has security implications.
“After the meeting, there will be an announcement on the decision that the Lagos State Government has taken with its entire security operatives on what and how we want to deal with the okada menace and the keke Marwa (tricycle). It’s a far-reaching decision, but we need to clarify it with the security architecture of the state,” he said.
According to Sanwo-Olu, street traders also constituted a nuisance and would be taken off the road.
The governor said an agency would be established for the job by the first quarter of 2020.
“We have seen instances that they robbed people in traffic; they brought out guns and knives. While we won’t allow that to happen, we realise there are others with real needs for source of livelihood. We are setting up the agency to regularise the vendors, take them off the streets and reorganise them,” he added.
