Lagos Set To Destroy Illegal Markets
Eko Hot Blog reports that Taskforce officers from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources have begun to crack down on illegal Markets spread across the state.
Evacuation of and demolition of shanties and makeshift structures along Orchid Junction, Eleganza Busstop, Lekki-Epe Expressway, have commenced and the illegal structures were destroyed to restore sanity to the community.
This is in compliance with the State government directives to enforce a cleaner and safer Lagos State for all.
Just as efforts are being put in place by the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) to support efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in delivering an effective railway system, LAWMA is currently implementing cleanup interventions at the railway corridors of Yaba and Agege respectively
The Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, who made this known on his X handle has said the illegal structures have become criminal hideouts from which various nefarious activities are orchestrated thereby unleashing terror on the community.
He also disclosed that 15 suspects with offensive weapons were also arrested in Criminal hideouts in Ikota.
Meanwhile, traders of Owode Onirin Market, Mushin have taken the cue to carry out a thorough cleanup of the Market in order to forestall closure of the market.
The Commissioner had in the previous week ordered the closure of Ladipo Market, a popular automotive spare parts hub over contraventions of establishment regulations and the flouting of sanitary laws.
