Lagos State Taskforce has embarked on an extensive operation to remove all shanties, makeshift buildings, and illegal structures along Agungi Ajiran Road, Lekki.
This effort aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the State Government, aiming to promote a safer, more habitable environment for residents.
According to CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Agency, the occupants of these illegal structures had been repeatedly warned and served eviction notices two weeks prior to the operation.
Despite this, they chose to remain, contributing to environmental degradation, security risks, and disruption of neighborhood decorum.
Akerele emphasized that the illegal structures not only mar the well-planned residential area but also contravene the Physical Planning programs of the State Government along the Lekki-Epe axis.

“Their continued presence is a serious cause for concern, and we must demonstrate our commitment to ensuring residential areas remain safe and habitable,” he stated.
The operation is set to continue, with shanties in other parts of the Lekki axis already served removal notices.
Akerele urged occupants to vacate the shanties and dismantle any illegal structures, warning that failure to comply would result in forced demolition by the Agency.
“I implore residents to report suspicious activities to the Agency through our feedback channels, enabling us to put a stop to these irregularities that have spread over time. If you see something, say something,” he emphasized.
This operation marks a significant step towards reclaiming the metropolis and promoting a culture of decency and respect for the law.
