The Lagos State Government has announced that its Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) will be partnering with the Nigerian Institute of Builders (NIOB) in a bid to monitor the use of low inferior materials for construction.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that LSMTL will create a database that profiles all the producers of block and clay manufacturers in the state.
General Manager of LSMTL Engineer Olufunsho Elulade stated that Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has doesn’t have tolerance for incidents of building collapse in the state, hence the need to capture every producer of construction materials.
Elulade stressed that the synergy between NIOB and LSMTL is very necessary at this point which is a work in progress.
He further said proper communication channels would be established, where identified buildings with defects will be shut down through appropriate means and members of the public via whistleblowing will serve as informants and alert the LSMTL on the areas where substandard structural construction exist.
