The retreat, which focuses on “the principle of work ethics in public service and other cutting-edge topics,” is designed to keep the new entrants abreast with the rules of engagement as civil servants.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the program held at the Agency’s Auditorium in Ikeja, the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, congratulated the participants on their appointments and charged them to be good ambassadors of the agency and the state in general.
“I implore you to be creative and proactive in the discharge of your assigned responsibilities and be loyal to the State Government and the oath which you have sworn to uphold. This is the best civil service in Nigeria, if not in the entire Africa, with great opportunities for a nobody to become somebody,” Arc Oki stated.
He applauded the “magnanimity of the Governor for graciously approving their absorption into the state civil service after serving as ad-hoc staff for years.”
While advising them on how to behave, speak, dress, and act in public as civil servants, Oki charged them to change their orientation from when they were “gang members of ad-hoc staff of LASBCA to being civil servants with rules and regulations guiding every engagement.”
Mr. Joseph Ojo of December 12 Ventures, a facilitator and Human Management Development Consultant, lectured the participants on various topics ranging from “transparency, integrity, discipline, loyalty to constituted authorities, tactfulness, honesty, fairness, and tidiness.” Senior management staff of the agency also spoke to the new intakes on different work ethics.
