Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, Commissioner for Housing, addressed the situation following a recent enforcement operation in Lateef Kayode Jakande Estate, where residents were caught engaging in energy theft by tampering with electrical connections.
He emphasized that the Ministry will no longer tolerate such transgressions, as well as the abandonment of existing infrastructure, such as water and electricity systems, in favor of individual solutions.
Akinderu-Fatai further cautioned residents against breaking the seals of apartments seized for violations, highlighting that the Ministry would enforce dire consequences for these actions.
Despite some residents’ pleas for leniency, the Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining order and upholding the regulations designed to ensure the proper functioning of government-owned estates.

The residents were also reminded that every Lagos State government housing estate is designed to ensure ideal communal living and that resident representatives should be supported to ensure the sustainability of the estate facilities.
