The NCDC, in its latest report, revealed that Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi are the hardest hit, making up 65 percent of the reported cases. The situation has escalated with 83 new confirmed cases reported in the sixth week alone, compared to 70 in the previous week.

“These cases are popping up in various states including Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, and others,” stated the report, indicating a widespread outbreak affecting communities nationwide.

Although the fatality rate of 17.5 percent is slightly lower than the previous year’s figure, the NCDC stresses the urgency of the situation. The most vulnerable age group, according to the report, is between 21 to 30 years old.

To combat the spread, the National Lassa fever multi-partner, multi-sectoral Incident Management System has been activated, mobilizing resources and expertise to address the crisis head-on.
