A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday at the Ojodu Berger axis of Lagos State when an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was crushed and maimed by a reckless truck driver who lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed.

“Upon emergency medical assessment at the Surgical Emergency Centre of LASUTH, attending specialists determined that the extent of the injuries necessitated an immediate amputation of his right leg,” Bakare-Oki stated
Preliminary investigations revealed that the trailer, registered in Bauchi State with the number KTG 33 ZZ, originated from Agidingbi by Oba Ogunji Road en route to Omole Junction in the Ogba corridor.
The driver, operating at an alarmingly high speed, lost control of the vehicle, causing a devastating collision that left the LASTMA officer with severe fractures to his right leg and hand.
The recklessness of the trailer driver not only endangered the lives of others on the road but also significantly impacted the victim’s life and career.
In response to the incident, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA spokesperson, emphasized the need for cautious and responsible driving.
Following the accident, the driver was promptly arrested by security operatives from the Ojodu Police Station in collaboration with vigilant LASTMA officials.
The victim, who remains unidentified, was rushed to the Surgical Emergency Centre of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for immediate treatment
The LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the hospitalized officer and expressed the agency’s support, reiterating their commitment to ensuring a safer road environment for all Lagosians.
