LASTMA Warns Commercial Bus Operators Against Route Violations, Illegal Parking in Lagos

  • LASTMA officials have been instructed to crack down on reckless driving and illegal practices.
  • Offenders will face strict legal action for violating traffic laws.
  • Road users urged to comply with traffic regulations for a safer and more efficient transport system.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to commercial bus drivers, especially operators of mini buses known as ‘Korope,’ urging them to strictly follow traffic regulations, particularly regarding unauthorized route deviations.

This directive is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain order on Lagos roads and ensure smooth traffic flow across the city.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, has ordered all ‘Korope’ drivers to immediately stop using unauthorized routes, warning that violators will face legal consequences. He added that LASTMA officials have been instructed to intensify enforcement against reckless driving and other illegal activities that disrupt traffic and hinder movement.

Hon. Giwa also condemned the illegal parking and loading of passengers on public roads, which contribute to congestion and pose risks to other road users. He emphasized that commercial drivers must use only designated bus stops and terminals to prevent unnecessary traffic obstructions

“Illegal parking and route violations have become a major issue in Lagos, particularly due to the actions of some mini bus operators. These offenses, which disrupt traffic and endanger public safety, will no longer be tolerated. LASTMA has been directed to enforce strict compliance with traffic laws and penalize offenders,” Hon. Giwa stated.

He further highlighted the security risks of unauthorized route deviations, noting that some criminal elements take advantage of commercial buses, especially ‘Korope,’ for illegal activities.

LASTMA urges all road users, especially commercial drivers, to cooperate with traffic enforcement officers, follow the rules, and promote responsible driving. The agency remains committed to ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient transportation system in Lagos.
