Lateef Jakande Road: The Perfect Extortion Alley For Central Business District Officers
Lagos State, if anyone is still oblivious by now, has grown to become Nigeria’s commercial and economic hub, with many seeing opportunities from the City and turning disadvantageous situations into economic opportunities.
For Central Business District (CBD) Officers, they are no different in taking full privilege of a negative situation and turning it into a money-making avenue.

This is particularly for road users coming through LTV or Shoprite and Mega Chicken, where a traffic light was mounted to guide the road traffic.
The Central Business District Officers are alleged to have taken advantage of this situation to extort money from road users who would be placed in disadvantageous positions owing to the placing of the zebra crossing.
This is generally because when there are traffic congestions on the road, vehicles are forced into situations where they get to stay on the zebra crossing without an alternative route to stay off of it.
The CBD Officers, knowing it is very much against the traffic regulations to stay on zebra crossings, have seen an opportunity to force their way to road users caught in this awkward situation to extort money from civilians.
The narrator of the trending video explains that the CBD Officers make their way to corner these civilians and force them to a Point of Sale (POS) agent around Fela Shrine to demand sums from them.
It was also revealed that the situation has become so much of a trend that a lot of articles have been written to call on the attention of the Lagos State Government to the extortion acts been carried out by these traffic officers, with little to nothing being done to tackle the issue.
The video goes on to stress how police officers, LASTMA officials, traffic wardens and a host of road security officers have gone on to make their presence known on this road despite there being traffic lights to guide road users.
According to the narrator of the video, the extreme emphasis placed on the road, attests to the interest the bosses of these officers carrying out these extortions, have on whatever money is brought to the table from these roads at the end of the day.
