“Most children nowadays prefer to spend all their income on phones, changing them like clothes, without considering that some people do not even have what to eat,” she said.
She noted that children grow up reflecting the values they are taught, stressing that fostering a culture of generosity would create a more compassionate society.
“What we teach our children today is what they will grow to continue. If we raise them to be selfish, they will become adults who care only about themselves,” she stated.
She encouraged individuals to assist others in their own little way, especially during the sacred periods of Ramadan and Lent, which emphasize sacrifice and compassion.
Similarly, Mrs. Iyalabake Omole stressed the importance of contentment, recalling the palliative distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she witnessed wealthy individuals competing for relief meant for the less privileged.
“When you are content with what you have, others will also benefit,” she said. “I remember during the COVID palliative, I was shocked to see people who could afford three square meals dragging for financial support with those who had no hope of surviving that day.”
Mrs. Omole also emphasized that love is the foundation of generosity.
“It is only when you love one another that you will remember those who need things more than you do. This Ramadan season is a time to reflect on that,” she added.
