BREAKING: ‘No LG Elections Will Hold In Rivers Under Fubara’ – Police Declare
The Nigeria Police Force has directed its commanders to enforce a Federal High Court ruling that halts the local government elections scheduled for tomorrow in Rivers State.
This follows an incident early Friday when Governor Siminalayi Fubara led a delegation to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office in Port Harcourt to prevent an alleged attempt to steal election materials for the Saturday poll. It was reported that police officers from neighboring Abia State were involved in the foiled attempt.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued by the Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the police reiterated that the Federal High Court in Abuja had, on July 19, 2024, issued a restraining order preventing the police and other security agencies from providing security for the election.
The police emphasized that they have been instructed by their Force Legal Department to adhere to the court’s September 30, 2024, judgment, which again prohibited their involvement in the local government elections.
The statement reads: “On September 30, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja reaffirmed its ruling, prohibiting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from participating in the Local Government Election in Rivers State, scheduled for October 5, 2024.”
Opposition parties have recently protested, calling for compliance with the court orders and affirming their commitment to upholding the law.
The police encouraged all aggrieved parties to seek legal redress regarding any concerns about the election. They added that law enforcement would ensure full compliance with the court’s directive and take necessary actions to maintain peace and order.
All Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders have been instructed to enforce the court’s ruling effectively.
