Trent Alexander-Arnold’s spectacular strike highlighted Liverpool’s commanding 4-0 victory over League Two side Accrington Stanley, securing their place in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

The England international, captaining the side in Virgil van Dijk’s absence, delivered a standout performance after facing criticism for his display in last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Manager Arne Slot, who made eight changes following Liverpool’s League Cup semi-final first-leg loss to Tottenham, described the match as Accrington’s “Champions League final.”

Despite being 86 league places below the Premier League leaders, Stanley held firm for nearly 30 minutes before Liverpool broke through.

“It was surreal,” said Accrington forward and Liverpool fan Josh Woods.

“They are world-class players and on the counter it is hard to stop.”

Diogo Jota made no mistake, tapping in from Darwin Nunez’s low cross to open the scoring for Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold then took the spotlight, doubling the lead with a stunning strike into the top corner from outside the box.

Jayden Danns, making only his second appearance of the season, added a third with a well-taken goal 14 minutes from time.

Federico Chiesa, whose Liverpool career has been hampered by injury, seized the opportunity to net his first goal for the club with a powerful long-range shot into the far post.

“It is definitely a good first step, but as much as I liked the way Accrington Stanley played we have to take into consideration that we’re talking about League Two level,” said manager Arne Slot, commenting on Chiesa’s performance after his second-half cameo.

“It is good to have him back on the pitch. He was a threat, but let’s not get carried away.”
