1. It requires madness to rule Nigeria, says Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday, said Nigeria required a leader driven by passion and ‘madness’ to rule the country and put it on the right footing.
Obasanjo said he had no other country he could call his own and had no other country he could go to.
Obasanjo stated this when he played host to a presidential aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, at his penthouse residence in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
2. Nigeria can’t end insecurity without state police, says Wike
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that Nigeria cannot end insecurity ravaging the country without establishing state police system.
He also said that without intelligence, the war against terrorism could not be won.
Wike, who is a presidential aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party, said these on Thursday, when he visited Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to meet with delegates to the party’s National Convention scheduled for the end of the month.
These were contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Taiwo Adisa, on Thursday.
3. I’m most capable aspirant to succeed Buhari, says Amaechi
The former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Thursday, said he had been tested, trusted and most capable among All Progressives Congress presidential aspirants to succeed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) in 2023.
The former Rivers State Governor stated this while addressing the Benue State APC delegates for the party’s presidential aspirant, according to a statement released by his media office.
Addressing the delegates, Amaechi said he would draw from his leadership experience to serve Nigerians.

4. 2023: PDP delegates make case for Udom Emmanuel
Several delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have increased the tempo of their lobby towards getting the party to adopt the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel as party’s consensus Presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.
This was sequel to the decision of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), to adopt consensus as one of the options being considered for the selection of its Presidential candidate.
Lobbyists acting under the aegis of the Inter-Party Presidential Consensus Forum (IPCF) on Thursday, re-echoed calls on the governors of the PDP to adopt the Akwa Ibom State governor as their consensus candidate.
5. Akwa Ibom: Army, others raid kidnappers hideout, rescue two kidnap victims
The Nigerian Army, in conjunction with the Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, among others have neutralised a notorious kingpin of a kidnapping gang in Akwa Ibom State, Otobong Moses, alias Otoabasi.
The troops during the raid of the kidnappers hideout in Obon Ebot Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the State on Wednesday, arrested three members of the kidnap syndicate and rescued two kidnapped victims.
The Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Capt. Samuel Akari, disclosed this newsmen listed items recovered during the operation to include; one Sub Machine Gun and magazine, 67 rounds of 9MM ammunition, two motorcycles, 16 mobile phones, one AK 47 rifle magazine with 30 rounds of 7.62MM Special ammunition and nine machetes

AHEAD of the primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to pick its Presidential candidate for the 2023 Presidential election, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan has begun his campaign tour of the country, saying that he is running as a Nigerian Presidential aspirant, not a northern aspirant.
Lawan who visited Katsina state yesterday to seek the support of party members particularly the delegates for his presidential bid, said that as a Nigerian he is qualified to be President and not as a northern aspirant as being insinuated in some quarters.
Lawan said, “I am not running as a northern aspirant because the impression created is that I’m a northern aspirant or that northerners are saying they are not going to allow power to the South.

7. Wike blasts Atiku, other aspirants for betraying PDP
Rivers Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Nyesom Wike, has berated some PDP aspirants for betraying the party in 2015, saying they do not deserve the party’s presidential ticket for 2023.
Wike, who alluded to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, said some aspirants in the PDP, caused disunity in the party in 2015, formed the new-PDP and sold out the party’s goodwill and electoral opportunities.
He spoke when he met Oyo PDP leaders and delegates in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State on Thursday to solicit support ahead of the party’s presidential primary this month.
8. APC presidential primary and scramble for delegates
Delegates to the presidential primary are beautiful brides. No aspirant dare joke with their power to elect or reject. That is why the aspirants are courting them. As accredited representatives, the party is bound by the choice they make on its behalf at the primary. That is the beauty of internal democracy and elective convention.
May 29 is the primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). But, the race for the ticket started a long time ago. Serious aspirants have deployed their weapons of incisive wit and foresight.
The frontline asoirant is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Others eyeing the ticket are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade; his Ebonyi State counterpart, Dave Umahi; Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi; Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello; and igawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru.

9. Bad leadership responsible for insecurity in Nigeria – Saraki
Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, blamed the dwindling security of Nigeria which have led to wanton destruction of lives and property to leadership failure.
Saraki, who made this known in Jalingo, Taraba State while interacting with delegates and stakeholders of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), felt sad that Nigeria as a nation, has gone through so much.

Garba reiterated that he dumped the party over the cost of its nomination and expression of interest forms.
Recall that Garba recently purchased a presidential expression of interest form of the Young Progressives Party, (YPP), which he said cost him only N7.4 million only.
