1. CJN travelled for medicals, never met Tinubu – Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Friday distanced the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, from a purported meeting with the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, in London.
There had been several reports (Not The PUNCH) claiming that the duo met in London. It was reported that the CJN disguised in a wheelchair and was wheeled into the aeroplane to London.
But debunking the reports on Friday, the Supreme Court’s spokesperson, Festus Akande, said the reports were false.
He said though the CJN travelled out of the country, he was out for medical care not for meeting with the president-elect.
2. Why FG sited N71.19bn solar cell factory in Nasarawa —Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, in Nasarawa State, said the abundance of Silicon and Silica—major raw materials for the production of solar cells—informed the siting of the NASENI solar cells production plant in Gora, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
“The major raw material requirements for the production of solar cells—Silicon and Silica—are naturally occurring in abundance in this area. We are grateful to the good people of Nasarawa for hosting this important project,” Osinbajo said at the foundation-laying ceremony of the N71.19bn ($171.97m) facility he described as the first solar cell factory in West Africa.
Osinbajo noted that the ceremony was a culmination of a decade’s work by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure which the Buhari regime has funded through a one per cent annual allocation from the federation account.
He said the project is necessary because it would be “clearly unsustainable” to add more carbon emissions to the $50bn worth of diesel fuel used in sub-Saharan Africa every year.
3. Guinea Bissau Wild Dogs down wingless Eagles 1-0 in Abuja
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have failed to secure a much-needed win against the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The Wild Dogs triumphed over Eagles in a 1-0 thriller on Friday.
The win against Nigeria means that the Eagles have lost their spot at the top of Group A to Guinea Bissau.

4. NAFDAC raises concern over continued use of bleaching creams by Nigerians
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has reiterated the need for Nigerians to minimize the level of exposure to harmful chemicals which are used in bleaching the skin as such are capable of increasing the rate of cases of cancer in the country.
The Agency stated that a World Health Organization, WHO study has revealed that 77 per cent of Nigerian women make use of skin bleaching creams and the figure is the highest in Africa compared to 59 percent in Togo, 35 per cent in South Africa and 27 percent in Senegal.
The Director-General, NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, made the disclosure on Friday in her address at the North-Central Zonal Media Sensitization Workshop on the Dangers of Bleaching Creams and Regulatory Control held in Jos, Plateau State.
5. NLC planned action: NECA calls for social dialogue
The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to use social dialogue to express their grievances over the challenges currently facing the country rather than resorting to strike.
The NECA Director-General, Mr Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, made the call in a statement on Friday in reaction to the planned action of the NLC.
Oyerinde said that the planned action of the union could further drag the economy into a deeper hole, leading to rapid business closures, job losses and other socio-economic challenges.
Recall that the NLC had on Wednesday said that it would picket all Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) offices nationwide on March 29, following the continued cash crunch.
6. New Governors Series: Abba Yusuf, man who upset Ganduje’s structure in Kano
The Kano state governor-elect, Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, who won the March 18 governorship election with 1,019,602 votes to defeat Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 890,705 votes, has upset the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s structure in Kano.
Yusuf’s victory comes four years after contesting against Ganduje in 2019 in a fiercely fought and controversial election, which similarly culminated in supplementary polls.
Recall that Ganduje had steered the politics of Kano for the past eight years, with intense skirmishes, one of which saw the end of the reigns of former Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and creation of more emirates in the state.
The NNPP, in addition to the victory at the governorship poll, also won 23 state assembly seats, as well as two Senate and 17 House of Representatives seats.

7. Ondo Pastor arrested for allegedly raping, killing nursing mother
Men of the Ondo Police Command have arrested Pastor Kayode Salami, 47, for allegedly raping and killing a nursing mother Adejoke Oloje.
It was gathered that the victim was staying in the church with her baby when the incident occured.
Mother of the deceased, Mrs Deborah, said her daughter left home without any notice until she wad found dead in the church.
According to her: “I called her line to ask about her whereabouts but she didn’t pick her calls. So, one day, some people told me they saw her in Alade with her cousin, Aderonke. I collected Aderonke’s phone number from their grandmother and I called her but she said Adejoke was staying in the church, not her place.
8. Buhari approves renewal of two appointments
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the renewal of the appointment of Bello Maigari as the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF).
According to a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Buhari also approved the renewal of the appointment of Dr. Gambo G. Aliyu as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
The statement by the Director of Information in the OSGF, Mr Willie Bassey, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, said while the re-appointment of Maigari takes effect from the 26th of February, that of Aliyu starts from 26th of June, both for final term of four years.

9. PDP moves to reconcile aggrieved members in Taraba
The leadership of the Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it will soon commence moves to reconcile all the aggrieved members of the party within the state.
The newly-elected state chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa stated this on Friday in an interview with journalists in Jalingo, shortly after he was given the nod to be presiding over the affairs of the party in the state.
The development, according to him, is part of the Party’s effort to strengthen and reunite all the aggrieved members of the party across the state.
10. LP, NNPP, 9 other parties reject Ogun guber poll result
A coalition of registered political parties in Ogun State has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election held in the state.
The coalition, comprising 11 out of the 13 parties that participated in the election, said it rejected the outcome of the governorship election because it was far from the wish of the people.
The convener of the coalition and chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Olaposi Oginni, while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday, said the Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Niyi Ijalaye, must be removed and prosecuted.
