1. Sudan: Nigerians stranded in Khartoum successfully evacuated – FG
The Federal Government on Friday said it successfully evacuated all Nigerians that were stranded in the crisis-ridden Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Sani Gwarzo, said this when he received the second batch of 130 evacuees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the evacuees arrived at the Pilgrims Terminal of the airport at exactly 3:10 pm local time on board TARCO aircraft B373-300 from Port Sudan.
2. Ayade imposes curfew on two communities in Cross River
The Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on two communities that clashed on Thursday.
The communities are Ovonum and Ofatura in Obubra Local Government Area of the state and the curfew takes immediate effect.
A statement by Governor Ayade’s Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Christian Ita, announced the curfew.
3. Onaiyekan spoke truth to power, says HURIWA
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has commended the Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, for his comments stating that it didn’t make sense to swear in President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal had yet to deliver a verdict.
The group made the commendation during a press conference held in Abuja on Friday.
The National Coordinator of HURIWA, Emmanuel Onwubiko, hailed the cleric for his stance on the issue and courage in speaking truth to power, “in a country filled with sycophants and hypocrites who pretend to be with the masses but yet dine with the oppressors.”

4. EFCC arrests ex-convict, 62 suspected Internet fraudsters in Ilorin
Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested no fewer than 62 persons over alleged involvement in offences bordering on internet fraud otherwise known as “yahoo-yahoo” in Ilorin, Kwara State.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren to journalists in Ilorin
According to the statement, “The arrests, which were carried out in two separate operations involved one Raji Wasiu Babatunde whom the Commission arrested sometime last year, prosecuted and got convicted, but went back to his vomit and got arrested again.
5. Rerun election: Appeal Court dismisses NNPP’s suit against Doguwa for lacking in merit
The Court of Appeal in Kano on Friday struck out an appeal filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party and its candidate Salisu Yushau, against the re-election of Alhassan Doguwa of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Doguwa represents Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency.
A three-member panel headed by Justice Ita George-Mbaba, in a unanimous judgment, also struck out the suit for lack of jurisdiction and affirmed the decision of the Tribunal.
The court upheld the decision of the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal.
6. 2.1bn fraud: Appeal Court upholds Maina’s conviction
The Court of Appeal on Friday in Abuja upheld the judgment of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court which sentenced Abdulrasheed Maina to eight years imprisonment.
Maina, who was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), was sentenced following his conviction for laundering pension funds to the tune of N2.1 billion.
Delivering judgment on behalf of the three-member panel, Justice Elfreda Daudu-Williams held that an opportunity was given to Maina to defend himself which he failed to use.
