PUNCH NEWSPAPER
1. Gridlock on Kara bridge to end Sunday – Abiodun
The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Saturday, says he had extracted a commitment from the contractors handling the Kara end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway that the part of the road would be completed and open to traffic on or before Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Abiodun disclosed that he got the commitment on Friday from the contractor through the Federal Comptroller of Works when he had an on-the-spot assessment on the cause of the constant gridlock on the road which had been causing the people discomfort.
He said, “On Friday, I stopped at Kara and made a piece of my mind known to the contractor handling the Kara end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, my stopping there was with respect to the very poor traffic management and the resulting traffic gridlock subjecting innocent travellers to untold hardship.
“I am glad to note that I was able to extract from the firm handling the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway through the Federal Comptroller of Works a commitment to complete the construction causing the bottleneck on or before Sunday 30th April and open the road to allow free flow of traffic both outbound and inbound Lagos.”
2. #ENDSARS: Firm prioritises job creation at reopening
A Quick Service Restaurant brand, Bukka Hut Restaurant, has said the reopening of one of its restaurants, which was closed down during the 2020 ENDSARS protest will create more job opportunities.
A statement signed by the Head of Operations, Mrs Victoria Oboh, stated that the company had to prioritise the safety of its staff, customers, and the community when the outlet, located at the Circle Mall, Jakande, Lagos was closed in 2020.
She said, “The reopening is creating more job opportunities and bringing the company closer to its customers within the area.
“This is coming two years after the outlet, which had been operational since December 2018, was shut down due to mass looting and arson that occurred in the mall on 22 October 2020 as part of the fall out of the END SARS protests.”
3. Lawyer seeks Makinde’s intervention over Aresa kingship dispute
An Abuja-based and public interest lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq, has asked Governor Seyi Makinde to use his good office to ensure that the rule of law prevails in the dispute over the kingship tussle between two ruling houses of Emiolu and Oshunbiyi both of the Iresa-Adu community in the Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Olajengbesi urged the governor to ensure that all parties involved in the matter stay further actions over the vacant stool of Aresa pending the hearing and determination by the Court of Appeal sitting at Ibadan, the state capital.
In a statement released on Saturday, the lawyer said with the demise of the Oba Jimoh Oyeyemi Oloyede from the Oshunbiyi ruling house in 2018, the Emiolu ruling house is entitled to produce the next Aresa of Iresa-Adu as the two ruling houses operate the principle of rotation.
However, Olajengbesi, the Managing Partner of the law firm, Law Corridor, the lawyers of the Emiolu ruling house, said some misguided individuals bent on ruining communal harmony have taken steps against the clear provisions of the Chieftaincy Declaration and continued to instigate frivolous and untraditional means to gain access to the vacant throne of Aresa.
