1. Fire razes two residential buildings, shops in Ilorin
A Saturday fire at a paints shop in Ilorin razed two adjoining residential buildings and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
The fire destroyed five other shops beside the paint shop.
The spokesman for Kwara Fire Service, Mr Hassan Adekunle, stated that “a paints shop suddenly caught fire and destroyed two residential buildings built beside it; a storey building and a bungalow.”
“Aside the two residential buildings destroyed by the ravaging fire, five other shops in the vicinity were also affected.
2. NYSC fixes date for Batch A stream 2 registration
The National Youth Service Corps has announced the dates for the 2023 Batch A Stream II online registration exercise.
This was announced in a post on the Corps official Twitter page on Saturday.
The scheme announced that the registration would commence on Tuesday April 11, until Monday, April 17, 2023.
The PUNCH reports that the Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, had in March unveiled a 22-man Inter-Ministerial committee to oversee the 50th year anniversary of the scheme, scheduled to hold in May.
3. Why states have different Hajj fares – Commission
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has explained why it fixed different hajj fares for various states of the federation.
The Deputy Director, Information and Publication of NAHCON, Mousa Ubandawaki, made the clarification in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
He said for over two months, the commission had been working to ensure that the fare did not spiral out of the reach of average Nigerian Muslims, especially against the backdrop of the global economic crisis, bourgeoning inflation, and the depreciation of the naira against the dollar in the forex market.
He said that since the announcement of the final hajj fare for Nigerian pilgrims by the NAHCON boss, Zikrullah Hassan, a varied limited number of people had been asking questions about why the pilgrims from the states of the federation would have to pay different fares from the same country.

4. Houses submerged in Abia after heavy downpour
Many houses were Saturday, submerged in Aba, Abia State after a heavy downpour that lasted for about three hours.
Flood completely took over most of the roads in the commercial city as a result of the heavy rain which overflowed the water channels.
Both human and vehicular traffic was instructed as a result of the heavy flooding.
5. Easter: Sustain peace in Imo — Uzodimma tells Imolites
The Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Saturday pleaded with residents of his state to assist to sustain peace in Imo state.
Uzodimma made this appeal in his Easter message to the Imo people.
Imo governor was of the view that the peace in Imo was “hard-won peace” which he said should be preserved.
6. Ogun: Man sets ex-lover’s apartment ablaze over failed reconciliation
The Police Command in Ogun says it has arrested a 43-year-old man Yusuf Hassan, for allegedly setting the apartment of his ex-lover Busayo Falola, ablaze, burning down the whole building.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Oyeyemi explained that the incident happened at 127, old Schorlar Palace, Igan Road, Ago Iwoye, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun at about 1:15 a.m.
He said the suspect was arrested on April 4 by the Police

7. Count us out of your travails, APC tells suspended LP chair
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from the travails and the leadership crisis rocking the opposition Labour Party (LP).
APC National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Barrister Felix Morka in a statement in Abuja on Saturday advised suspended LP National Chairman, Julius Abure to swim in the party’s mess and leave APC out of its self-inflicted problem.
The LP Chairman on Thursday accused the ruling party of colluding with the Police and other security agencies to seal the national secretariat of the opposition party.
8. Ibadan Chief preaches peace, sacrifice at Easter
The Aare-Onibon Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke has called for peace, love and tolerance among Nigerians in the spirit of Easter celebration.
In his Easter message, Adegoke, who is the Chairman and CEO of Solutions 93.9 FM, felicitated with Christians on Easter.
The frontline politician and Chairman and CEO of Adegboyega Adegoke Resource Centre (AARC) urged all Nigerians to pray for peace and security during the celebration.
According to him, Easter which is the season of the remembrance of the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, marks the trial, sacrifice, victory and completion of the divine mandate of the author of the Christian faith.
