1. Senate summons Shell over alleged contract breach
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has summoned the management of the Shell Petroleum Development Company over an alleged breach of contract involving the oil firm and Messrs Omire and Associates.
The Chairman of the Senate panel, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, gave the order on Wednesday when the matter came up for hearing during the sitting of his Committee.
Lawyers to Messrs Omire and Associates, Mr K.K. Peters had in a petition to the Senate alleged that the multinational oil corporation allegedly refused to pay his client’s service charge for its contractual dues in respect of contracts NGO1001316 (A28) and NGO1003128 (A29) awarded to his client in 2008.
He also alleged that the SPDC short-paid his client for three years by converting his payments from Dollars to Naira and that all entreaties made to the Company to be paid fell on deaf ears.
2. Edo Inferno: APC blames Obaseki, govt kicks
The Edo State Government and the state All Progressives Congress have traded blames over the fire that gutted about 20 shops at the Lagos Street Market in Benin, Edo State.
In a release on Wednesday by the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Victor Osehobo, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Col. David Imuse (retd), sympathised with traders who lost millions of naira worth of goods.
Imuse, who blamed the disaster on the refusal of the PDP-led government to separate electioneering campaigns from real time decision making as a government, said that the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, had in six years continued to make a mess of governance.
The APC chairman recalled that Obaseki in 2021 promised the employment of more firemen in addition to the 18 across the state while creating the incentives for them to work, as well as to make them feel cherished and appreciated.
“Obaseki even promised to buy additional fire trucks and refurbish the already dilapidated fire service trucks in the state as well as instal hydrants and water facilities in markets in collaboration with the federal fire service. But at this moment I can tell you that the governor has forgotten about this critical partnership which would have safeguarded lives and properties of traders in Edo markets.”
3. Car theft: Police launch stolen vehicles report portal
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Wednesday, commissioned the digitalised Central Motor Registry Command Centre at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The CMR is domiciled at the Department of Information and Communication Technology, at the Louis Edet House.
Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Wednesday acquired by our correspondent, noted that the creation of the CMR was in line with the IGP’s quest to ensure a digital environment for policing the country for robust and more proactive measures in crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution.

4. NCC gives update on 3.5GHz Spectrum auction
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says only two companies expressed interest in the auction of the 3.5GHz Spectrum band by the close of business on Monday, December 5, 2022.
It listed them as; Airtel Networks Limited (Airtel) andS tandard Network & Connections Limited (Standard Network).
However, the Commission said only Airtel had paid the Intention to Bid Deposit (IBD) as stipulated in the Information Memorandum (IM) whereas, Standard Network sent an email appeal for the deadline to be extended by twelve (12) working days which was not acceptable in view of the auction timetable.
5. 2022 Flood: Declare Ijawland disaster zone, Ijaw Diaspora Council tells Buhari
AS 2022 flood leaves deep injuries and scars on Nigerians, the Ijaw Diaspora Council, IDC, Wednesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare Ijawland disaster zone.
This was contained in an open letter addressed to the President dated December 2, 2022, and signed by the President, IDC, Prof. Mondy Selle Gold, and made available to Vanguard.
IDC pointed that the open letter to Buhari was to draw his attention “to the ravaging flood that has devastated most of the Ijaw states in the Niger Delta region.”
The letter reads in part, “Mr. President, the impact is so severe that it’ll take years for many communities to recover. This no doubt has compounded the immense environmental pollution and its associated health issues the Ijaws have been facing for decades now. The following are also ‘albatrosses’ the people are forced to contend with.
6. Why we’re harvesting Voter Identification Numbers from PVCs – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has explained its decision to harvest Voter Identification Numbers VIN from Permanent Voter Cards PVCs of Nigerians registered several years ago but are yet to collected their PVCs.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye, in a statement on Wednesday, said the commission had become aware of a video circulating on various social media platforms.
According to the statement, the viral video was showing some INEC staff at our FESTAC Town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area Office, Lagos extracting Voter Identification Numbers (VINs) from Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and entering same into their cellphones.
The makers of the video, Okoye said, had insinuated that they were doing this for the purpose of undermining the 2023 General Election.

7. Ohaneze predicts 80 percent votes for Obi
National Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene has predicted that over eighty percent Nigerian would vote for the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 general elections.
He said Obi’s change agenda, wide endorsement from the Afenifere, Middlebelt Leaders Forum and many other ethnic social-cultural organisations across the country informed reasons for his prediction.
Speaking during the inauguration of Anambra State Obi/Datti presidential campaign committee on Wednesday in Awka, Okeke- Ogene who doubles as South East Zonal coordinator, stressed that Southeast support for Obi was not for interest of Ndigbo but that of Nigerians.
He said: “We don’t want to make our support to Peter Obi an Igbo affair and we are not supporting him because he is an Igbo man. Ohaneze is fully in support of Peter Obi/Ahmed Datti joint ticket. We are fully in support of it “in and out” .

Okwoche asked: “Nigerians have lived under this Buhari administration for almost eight years. Some would say these eight years have come with a lot of pain and a lot of suffering You are coming from the same perspective as President Muhammadu Buhari and, you know, you’re members of the same political party. Tesla boss and Twitter owner, Elon Musk, on Wednesday, lost the world’s richest title to Bernard Arnault after a steep drop in the value of his stake in the electric-car maker and a $44 billion bet on the social media firm.
Tesla’s shares fell about 4 per cent in morning trading on Wednesday, 7th of December 2022.
This is coming months after Musk sold Tesla stocks to fund the $44 billion purchase of Twitter.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said its officers have the power to search any building for any smuggled products.
DAILY POST reports that there have been controversies on whether or not customs officers have the right to storm any building in search of contrabands.
Many have argued that operations of the NCS officials should be done at the border posts only instead of chasing smugglers into the busy roads.
