1. Buhari assents to aviation, social workers, other bills
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has assented to eight bills recently passed by the National Assembly.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Nasiru Baballe Ila, made this known in a statement issued on Monday.
The statement read, “His Excellency, the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, assented to eight bills recently passed by the National Assembly as detailed below:
“Civil Aviation Act, 2022: This Act repeals the Civil Aviation Act, No. 6, 2006, and enacts the Civil Aviation Act, 2022, to provide for an effective legal and institutional framework for the regulation of civil aviation in Nigeria in order to promote aviation safety and security, ensure that Nigeria’s obligations under international aviation agreements are implemented, and consolidate the law relating to civil aviation regulation in Nigeria; provide for an effective legal and institutional framework for the regulation of civil aviation in Nigeria in conformity with the standards and recommended practices set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO); and establish rules of operation and divisions of responsibility within the Nigerian civil aviation system in order to promote aviation safety and security; ensure that Nigeria’s obligations under international aviation agreements are implemented; and consolidate the laws relating to the regulation of civil aviation in Nigeria.
2. Osinbajo, other APC presidential aspirants storm Abuja Wednesday
The youngest presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Nicolas Felix, on Monday dismissed an earlier report that the brainstorming session of all aspirants who participated in the last APC convention had been cancelled.
Felix, who made the clarification in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, stated that he called for the roundtable for them to meet minds and come up with viable strategies to win the 2023 general election.
He said, “The choice of Abuja wasn’t a mistake. I called the meeting for us to address the challenges bedevilling our country and inclusive politics.
“We will also brainstorm on adopting winning campaign strategies that seek to carry every Nigerian along in our bid to coast home to victory in the 2023 general elections.”
The meeting is scheduled to hold on Wednesday at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja by 2.00pm.
3. FG proposes N19.76tn budget for 2023
The Federal Government is proposing a budget with estimates totalling N19.76tn, while the deficit will hover between N11.30tn and N12.41tn in the 2023 fiscal year.
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, who made this known in Abuja on Monday, decried that the government might be unable to provide for treasury funded capital projects next year, especially due to dwindling revenue and payment of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol.
Ahmed, in his presentation to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Finance at the hearing on the proposed 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, pointed out that crude oil production challenges and PMS subsidy deductions by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (formerly Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) constitute a major threat to the country’s revenue growth targets.
She stated that bold, decisive and urgent action must be taken to address revenue under performance and expenditure efficiency at the national and sub-national levels.

4. Ikpeazu swears in 5 new Perm Secs
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has sworn in five new permanent secretaries with a charge to promote the state government’s development agenda.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony on Monday at the Government House, Umuahia, Ikpeazu urged the new permanent secretaries to evolve ideas that would give impetus to the vision of the government to transform the state.
He urged them to abide by their oaths of office and ensure their personal interests do not influence their official conducts.

5. Banditry: FG releases N6.25bn for establishment of cattle ranches in Katsina
Katsina State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, says the Federal Government has released N6.25 billion for the establishment of cattle ranches in local government areas affected by banditry in the state.
Yakubu, also Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, disclosed this during the Ranch Stakeholders Development Meeting in Katsina on Monday.
He said that the frontline local government areas where grazing reserves would be established were Jibia, Batsari, Dutsinma, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari and Sabuwa Dandume among others.
According to him, part of the funds will be used to construct schools, health centres and veterinary clinics in the affected communities.
6. Why I defected to PDP — Shekarau
The former Kano state governor and incumbent Senator representing the Kano Central Senatorial Zone, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has explained his decision to join the PDP as the final outcome of the Shura Committee former by his supporters.
Shekarau explained that he is not after position or office but working to protect his integrity, dignity and freedom as a citizen.
Delivering an address announcing his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, Shekarau added further that wherever he goes to and there are signs of lack of fairness and justice he will leave.
He publicly announced that he is no more the Senatorial candidate under the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) saying he and all his supporters have moved to the PDP.

7. MC Oluomo warns park officials against joining illegal organisation
The Chairman of Parks and Garages Management Committee, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo) has warned members of the agency against belonging to secret cults.
Akinsanya said associating with illegal organisations would be a dent in the integrity of the agency.
He said the killing of Sulaimon Lawal (aka Ariku) has nothing to do with the agency matter.
8. 22 APC ex-Presidential aspirants meet Wednesday for Tinubu
The proposed meeting of 22 ex-presidential aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holds on Wednesday in Abuja.
The meeting is for the aspirants to strategist on how the party’s standard bearer, Asuwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be victorious at the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
Confirming the meeting, the youngest presidential aspirant at the special convention, Nicolas Felix, on Monday in a statement in Abuja said the meeting will hold as scheduled.

9. Ekiti 2022: APC gets tribunal’s nod to inspect election materials
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been granted leave by the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to inspect documents and other electoral materials used for the conduct of the June 18 governorship election.
The leave to inspect the poll materials was consequent upon the prayer sought by the APC which was moved through a motion ex parte by its counsel, Mr. Kabir Akingbolu on behalf of the lead counsel, Chief Akinlolu Olujinmi (SAN) at the proceeding of the Tribunal on Monday.
The APC is the 2nd Respondent in the petition filed by the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the election, Engr. Segun Oni, who is challenging the victory of the APC flag bearer, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, who has been declared as the Governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Governor-elect, Mr. Oyebanji, was listed as the 1st Respondent in the petition before the three-member panel of judges at the Tribunal.
10. Kwara govt vows to deal with electrical cable vandals, thieves
The Commissioner for Energy in Kwara State, Hajia Mariam Ahmed Hassana, on Monday, warned electrical cable vandals and thieves to desist from the act as the state government is ready to deal with them.
She gave the warning in her office while hosting the people of Ilupeju-Lawal community, Madi in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state, during a courtesy visit.
Hajia Ahmed said the government will henceforth go tougher with such criminals who she described as saboteurs of the spirited efforts of the state government at making basic amenities accessible to the citizens.
She urged communities to assist by being watchful and report any suspicious movement around electricity transformers to the law enforcement agencies.
The commissioner also announced the Ministry’s resolve to dispatch their officials for proper supervision of transformers, poles and other electricals in the public space.
