1. FG mandates training for ASUU, NLC leaders
The Federal Government has proposed a mandatory eight weeks course at the Michael Imoudu National Institute of Labour Studies for all newly elected labour leaders in the country.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, disclosed this, Monday, during the budget defence of his ministry and its parastatals before the House of Representatives Committee on Labour.
According to a statement released by the ministry, Ngige noted that the training is necessary to acquaint the labour leaders with the laws guiding trade unionism and trade dispute resolution in the country, along with the conventions of the International Labour Organisation.
He explained that the mandatory training would also enable the unions to know the limits of their powers and where the powers of their employers stop.
2. Oyebanji appoints ex-APC chair, ex-commissioner, others as advisers
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed eight special advisers in a bid to position his administration for excellent service delivery.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, who is among the appointees as SA Media and Strategy/CPS, made the disclosure in a statement in Ado Ekiti, on Monday evening, titled, ‘Oyebanji appoints eight special advisers’.
Oyebode listed the remaining as pioneer All Progressives Congress chairman in the state, Chief Jide Awe (Political and Inter Party Affairs), the immediate past Commissioner for Education, Dr Bimpe Aderiye (Education, Science and Technology), and Mr Niyi Adebayo (Budget, Economic Planning and Performance Management).
Others are Mrs Tayo Adeola (Investment, Trade and Industry), Mr Ebenezer Boluwade (Agriculture and Food Security), Tope Ogunleye (Bureau of Special Projects) and Mr Seun Fakuade (Governance, Reforms and Innovation).
3. Privacy row: US fines Google $392m
Google, on Monday, agreed to settle a landmark privacy case with 40 US states over accusations that the search engine giant misled users into believing location tracking had been switched off on their devices.
A statement said it was the largest multi-state privacy settlement by state authorities in US history and included a binding commitment for improved disclosures by Google.
“Digital platforms like Google cannot claim to provide privacy controls to users then turn around and disregard those controls to collect and sell data to advertisers against users’ express wishes — and at great profit,” said New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin in the statement.
The rare joint lawsuit by 40 states grew from impatience over the failure of federal authorities to crack down on big tech amid legislative gridlock in Washington.

4. Gunmen kill monarch, 2 others in Imo
Unidentified gunmen, Monday, struck and killed the traditional ruler of Obudi Agwa Autonomous Community, Eze Ignatius Asor.
A source in the community said they also killed two other persons in the community.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the palace during a meeting and opened fire, killing the monarch and others at the spot, while injuring some others.
The attack was said to have left the community devastated, as some have fled the community for fear of more attacks and massive arrests.
“Gunmen stormed the palace while they were having meeting and opened fire on them. The traditional ruler, Eze Ignatius Asor has been killed and two others.
5. Debt services likely higher by December — DMO DG
The Director-General, Debt Management Office (DMO), Ms. Patience Oniha, Monday, said that there is the likelihood of debt services becoming higher by the end of the year.
The DG attributed this to the low revenues earned by the country.
Appearing before the House of Representatives committee on Debt and Loans to defend the 2023 budget of the Office, Oniha said that the government has indulged in a measure called ‘ways and means’ where the federal government borrows money from the Central Bank of Nigeria directly.
She said that the international market has closed its doors of borrowing, making it difficult for the country to borrow.
The DG, however, said that measures were provided in the 2023 budget to service the loans, stressing that Nigeria had not defaulted so far.
6. Assault on Police officers: ABC transport Mgt tenders apology
Following an altercation between operatives of the Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad ACKS under the Cross River state police Command and some staff of ABC transport , Calabar Branch, the management of the branch has tendered an apology to the Police Command over the incident.
In a letter made available to Vanguard on Monday addressed to the Commissioner of Police, CP Sule Balarabe and signed by Mr. Benedict Aka , Branch Manager ,ABC Transport , apologized for the undesired conduct of his staff and obstructing the operatives on the cause of thier official duty.
Vanguard findings showed that Mr Collins Uche had petitioned the Commissioner of Police through his counsel alleging that sometime in February 2022 he approached ABC Cargo express to in Lagos to deliver 1,367 cartons of cosmetic valued at 57million naira to Calabar.

7. Kwara donates new patrol vehicles as AbdulRazaq restates commitment to security
Kwara State Government on Monday donated 10 new patrol vehicles to the ‘Operation Harmony Tactical Team’.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said will help to strengthen security of lives and properties and build confidence within the business community.
The tactical team is a combined security outfit under the State Command of the Nigeria Police.
It is the third time the administration is giving out operational vehicles to the police to beef up security in the state. It has similarly donated patrol vehicles to other security agencies at various times.

Afro dancehall singer Cynthia Ikponmwenosa Morgan aka Cynthia Morgan has shared ‘prophecies’ about some popular Nigerian personalities and Jamaican singer, Popcaan.

9. Imo CP condemns monarch’s murder, orders investigation
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, on Monday, condemned the attack on the palace of His Royal Highness, Eze (Dr.) Ignatius Asor (fcin), the Udi 1 of Obudi Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
The police boss, while appealing for calm, assured the people of Agwa in particular and Imo State in general that the investigation has commenced and the command will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
Recall that DAILY POST had earlier reported that gunmen in their numbers on Monday morning invaded the Obudi Agwa community in Oguta LGA of Imo State, killing the community’s monarch and others.
The police confirmed the report in a statement signed by police spokesman Michael Abattam made available to journalists in Owerri, the state capital.
10. 2023: Peter Obi doing comedy skits – Deji Adeyanju
A social media influencer, Deji Adeyanju, has likened the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s ambition to comedy skits.
Adeyanju, in a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday, said the only way to stop Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is for Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to step down for each other.
“The only way to stop APC is either for Obi to step down for Atiku or Atiku steps down for Obi,” Adeyanju said.
However, he admitted that “it is politically unreasonable to ask Atiku to step down for Obi because PDP is too strong politically with so many governors.”
He said that as of today, “Obi is only doing comedy skits,” saying the Labour Party has no structure across the nation.
