1. Fuel hike: NANS threatens to shut petrol stations
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West zone, has condemned the hardship brought upon Nigerians, most especially students, by the increment in fuel pump prices in the southwestern region of the country.
NANS, in a statement signed by the zone’s Coordinator, deputy Coordinator and Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Olatunji, Alao John and Awoyinfa Opeoluwa respectively, on Tuesday, said the country’s economy had been in a state of uncertainty and didn’t know what to expect next.
“With so much displeasure, we critically stand against the increase in fuel pump price by all fuel marketers across boards. It has gotten to the peak where we resort to our ‘last C of Auta’ which is confrontation.
“The leadership of NANS, South-West, hereby declares massive protest against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria.
2. Tinubu-Obi: No manifesto, no debate, says Keyamo
A spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, has given conditions for which his party will accept to debate with the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Listing the conditions in a statement on Tuesday, Keyamo said Obi should first release his manifesto before any debate with him could be considered by the APC.
He also challenged Obi to list his “tangible achievements” during his two-term tenures as Governor of Anambra State for a comparison with the achievements of the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, when the latter was Governor of Lagos State.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment also asked Obi to provide a list of his political mentees from his days as governor and those who were still with him.
3. Senate, Reps clash over sports varsity bill
The Senate and the House of Representatives seem to be in a state of confusion over the right piece of legislation to be given final passage for the establishment of a Federal University of Sports.
While the Senate through its Chairman on Sports and Youths Development , Senator Obinna Ogba (PDP Ebonyi Central), sponsored a bill to that effect, considered and passed for third reading on December 7, 2021 , the House came up with a different version of the bill and sought the concurrence of the Senate.
The bill was passed for the second time on May 19, 2021 and passed for third reading on December 7, 2021.
Things went haywire when the bill came up to be considered for concurrence by Senate during a plenary on Tuesday.

4. Level of vote buying alarming — INEC Chairman, Yakubu
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has said that the level of vote buying in the country has assumed an alarming dimension.
He also said that the commission’s sensitive materials and the staff were in grave danger due to insecurity, reiterating that the menace was still a big threat to the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
Yakubu raised the concerns while giving his goodwill message at an annual summit of political parties and stakeholders organised by National Institute of Strategic Studies, NIPPS, in Abuja on Wednesday, to brainstorm on how best to achieve successful polls in 2023.
5. Naira redesign to encourage expanded financial inclusion –CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says the naira redesign will encourage expanded financial inclusion and other forms of electronic transactions.
Ahmed Umar, the Director, Currency Operations of CBN, said this at the 2022 workshop for business editors and members of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Umar, represented by Amina Halidu-Giwa, the Head, Policy Development Division, Currency Operation Department of the bank, said the redesign would encourage many un-banked people to be included in the financial system.
According to him, it will discourage excessive carrying of cash and encourage other electronic means of transactions.
6. ‘Free Aminu, stop misusing power’ – Mr Macaroni tells Aisha Buhari
Nigerian comedian, Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has asked the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, to stop the misuse of power.
Vanguard reported that Aminu Muhammed was arrested over a post he made on Twitter, mocking Aisha Buhari.
On Tuesday, Mr Macaroni, via his Twitter account, criticised Aisha Buhari, telling her to stop abusing her position and to file any complaints with the appropriate authorities.
Mr Macaroni went on to say that because he was a “victim of persecution,” he had a lot to say about situations like Mohammed’s.

7. Treasury looters will pay- Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said no matter how long it takes, those who steal public funds will pay for it.
He said Nigerians should know that integrity is better than living a corrupt life.
He said any act of corruption by a citizen affects the reputation of his or her country.
Osinbajo spoke on the evils of corruption in Model Secondary Schools in Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory at the unveiling of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) Integrity and Zero Tolerance Clubs Manual.
8. Police mum over alleged brutalisation of student
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has been silent over the alleged torture of Aminu Adamu Mohammed, a student of the Federal University Dutse Jigawa detained by the Police.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Tuesday reacted to what it described as a sad development.
Aminu, who has allegedly sustained injuries from the torture, was reportedly arrested and detained on the instruction of First Lady Mrs Aisha Buhari over a Twitter accusing the wife of the President of feeding fat on poor people’s money.
The alleged torture and detention of the undergraduate are generating reactions and controversies in the media space.

9. NCC committed to gender equality in information technology space – Danbatta
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Umar Danbatta, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring there is a balance in the representation of females in the information technology (IT) ecosystem.
The EVC, speaking recently through the Head, Digital Media Management of the Commission, Nafisa Usman Rugga, at the ICT Quiz competition for Girl’s in Senior Secondary Schools organized by Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT), said there was an urgent need to equip the girl child with adequate knowledge, access and use of Information Technology programmes and services which will give them the needed skill to compete in the digital space.
Danbatta further stated that the empowerment programme in commemoration of the International Girls in ICT day, aligns with the Commission’s mandate of broadband penetration drive to women in rural and suburban areas for capacity building, employability, increased connectivity, and inclusion for gender equality throughout the Country.
10. Naira redesign: CBN denies plan to print N5000 note
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said there’s no plan to introduce N5,000 denominated bank note following the naira redesign.
Ahmed Umar, CBN Director of Currency Operations made the clarification on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Umar attended the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) workshop for Financial Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) and Business Editors.
