A High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has sentenced Abdulrahman Bello to death by hanging over the killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Justice Hannah Ajayi delivered the verdict on Thursday, ruling that the evidence presented in court proved Bello was responsible for the death of the young woman.

Bello was arrested in February 2025 by the police for luring Lawal to his residence in the Olunlade area of Ilorin, where the incident occurred. According to police investigations, he had connected with the student through Facebook.
Items recovered from his home during the investigation includes various objects and materials which were used as evidence in court.

In his statement during the trial, Bello admitted to the act and claimed it was connected to a money ritual attempt.
Justice Ajayi said the prosecution successfully proved its case and sentenced him accordingly.
Meanwhile, four other persons charged alongside Bello, Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Jamiu Uthman, Suleiman Muyideen, and Abdulrahman Jamiu were cleared of all charges and discharged by the court due to lack of evidence.
