EKO HOT BLOG reports that the call was issued in a communiqué released on Tuesday following a high-level meeting in Abuja, convened by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and attended by several PDP leaders, including former Senate President David Mark, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and other key stakeholders.
The meeting focused on uniting opposition forces and harmonizing strategies to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In the communiqué signed by David Mark, participants urged all patriotic Nigerians and PDP members to join the coalition to “rescue the country from the APC’s misrule.”
The coalition emphasized the need for unity on issues of national security, democracy, economic revival, and the political will to eradicate corruption. They also agreed to work out winning strategies that would address both local and national electoral dynamics.
The communiqué described the meeting as a gathering of PDP leaders genuinely committed to resolving the internal crisis facing the party. It accused the APC-led federal government of using state institutions to suppress opposition and destroy democratic structures in Nigeria.
The PDP leadership was also blamed for failing to adhere to the party’s constitution and internal rules, leading to disunity and a weakening of its political strength.
The communiqué further stated, “The APC government, which came into power on the back of false propaganda, has failed to develop Nigeria and instead worsened the nation’s challenges. Life in Nigeria has become unbearable.”
The meeting was attended by other PDP stalwarts, including Prince Uche Secondus, Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, Babangida Aliyu, Sam Egwu, Senator Ben Obi, Josephine Anenih, Senator Austin Akobundu, Kola Ologbondiyan, and Abdullahi Maibasira.
