The tech giant—owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—has been expanding its influence beyond social media, investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure.

Meta stated that the new cable would deliver “industry-leading connectivity” across five continents and play a crucial role in supporting its AI-driven initiatives.

“This project will enable greater economic cooperation, facilitate digital inclusion, and open opportunities for technological development in these regions,” Meta wrote in a blog post.

The cable, designed with a 24-fiber-pair system, will offer unprecedented data capacity, according to the company.

Undersea cables are vital for global digital services and high-speed data transfers, with an estimated 95% of the world’s internet traffic relying on them.
