Mile 2-Tin Can Road Closure: Bear With Us, LAGS Begs Residents
The closure of Mile 2 -Tin Can road will take effect from December 9 -December 11, 2019, therefore the Lagos State Government , yesterday, appealed to residents, especially those living around the area to bear the pains for good as this would allow the Federal Government to carry out palliative works on the bad portion along that axis without any hindrance.
Commissioner for Transportation , Dr. Frederic Oladeinde Oladeinde explained that findings by his Ministry clearly indicated that frequent accidents by articulated vehicles and trucks in the area were occasioned by the deplorable condition of the road between Mile 2 and Tin Can Island .
He said there was an urgent need to allow the Federal Government to carry out the palliatives, so as to ease traffic congestion and prevent a further accident .
The Commissioner, who noted that it is an exclusive right of the Ministry of Transportation to announce the closure of any road for construction /rehabilitation /palliative works , stated that his ministry would not do so , if not in public interest, urging residents to cooperate with the state government for the three- day closure .
He assured them that various law enforcement agencies , including Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA ) and the Police , would be on ground to direct traffic and manage the situation .
He urged the public to direct all inquiries on the closure and the planned palliative works to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Alausa , Ikeja , while calling on commuters , truck owners and other relevant stakeholders to comply with traffic arrangements.
