The House of Representatives will begin the defence of the 2025 national budget on Tuesday, January 9, 2025, with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) presenting their budget proposals.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the House aims to pass the ₦49.7 trillion budget by the end of January 2025, according to Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation.
Bichi confirmed this schedule following a meeting with statutory committee chairmen. He emphasized that the timely passage of the budget is crucial for advancing national development.
The process will involve MDAs justifying their proposed allocations and expenditures for the fiscal year, which will determine the final budget allocation for each sector.
On December 18, 2024, President Bola Tinubu presented the ₦49.7 trillion budget proposal to the National Assembly, which includes significant allocations for key sectors.
During his address, Tinubu highlighted that the budget, titled “The Restoration Budget,” is designed to foster national peace and economic prosperity.

Key budgetary allocations include:
Defence and Security: ₦4.91 trillion
Infrastructure: ₦4.06 trillion
Health: ₦2.4 trillion
Education: ₦3.5 trillion
