Nigeria national football team are currently facing a similar phase. After featuring at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 tournaments, the team missed the 2006 edition. They returned for 2010, 2014 and 2018 but have now failed to qualify for both the 2022 and 2026 tournaments.
England also endured a difficult spell in the 1970s. Despite winning the World Cup in 1966, they failed to qualify for the 1974 and 1978 editions before making a return in 1982.
